Seattle Front Office to Supporters: Give Us Your Full Disney
Sounder Supporters bending over – setting bad precedent for
other supporters groups
In the interest of fine tuning its product to the appropriateness threshold of
the average American family, the Seattle Sounders front office is collaborating
with Emerald City Supporters to tone down their behavior.
The result: fan-generated scarves out, thundersticks in.
Seattle Soccer Examiner and ECS representative David Faulk wrote:
“Emerald City Supporters have been requested by the Sounders Front
Office to not bring ‘Let's Go Fucking Mental’ scarves to matches
anymore. As we all know, the mere presence of the word in our
stadium has induced riots and is a 'gateway' word to mayhem . . .
Luckily, the Sounders and Samsung will replace the scarves with
‘thunder sticks’. . .”
The article also included a poll requesting Sounder fans' opinions about the
scarve prohibition, thundersticks and the marching band.

For want of better support: Like Drew and
Sigi's man boobs, Sounder fans are supple,
unlikely to stand up for themselves.
Most fans were more concerned about the thundersticks than anything else,
but where are your priorities Sounder fans? While the thundersticks are
certainly an annoyance, the prohibition on certain fan-generated articles is
more concerning since it is a step towards curbing the fan creativity and
expression that we know is critical to the future of the fan experience in North
America.
Tension between supporters groups and club front offices is nothing new in
MLS, but supporters of other North American clubs have not greeted
restrictions so casually.
Last season, Chicago fans took a stand against treatment of their own, with an
anti-racist message that was supported by many clubs. On a far less serious
topic, Portland supporters boycotted their section 107 a few seasons ago as a
protest against the same types of constraints being accepted by Seattle fans.
But just when they were showing a bit of creative license (ok so Calvin
pissing is a lame ripoff and should actually be banned by every supporters
group – but they were trying), Sounders supporters are falling limp like Sigi
when he takes off his man-bra.
With most MLS clubs realizing the value that a strong supporters culture
represents, our respective groups are in a stronger position that we ever have
been. Unfortunately at this important point in North American supporters
culture, Sounder fans who proclaim their club as the model for the MLS are
failing the rest of us by not standing up for the lifeblood of fan culture –
creative expression.
C’mon Sounder fans, what’s yer soul worth? If you are going to hold
yourselves up as a model for us to follow, grow a pair ECS! Stand up for fan
culture - or did you just come for the marching band?
If anything should be censored it's the
phone-it-in lameness of calvin pissing tifo.
